Mahabharata SagaCharacter64.0

Grandson of Lord Krishna and son of Pradyumna, Aniruddha was a fearless Yadava prince whose legendary love story with Usha led to the great war against Bana. Celebrated for his courage and martial prowess, he emerged as one of the finest warriors of the Yadava dynasty.

Biography

Aniruddha is described in the Mahabharata and more fully in the Harivamsha, Bhagavata Purana and Vishnu Purana as the son of Pradyumna and grandson of Krishna. Born into the foremost branch of the Yadava dynasty, he inherited the courage of his father and the divine lineage of his grandfather, becoming one of Dvaraka's greatest warrior princes. His most celebrated story began with Princess Usha, the daughter of Bana. After dreaming of a prince she had never met, Usha's companion Chitralekha identified Aniruddha and, through her mystical powers, brought him to Sonitapura. There the two fell deeply in love before Bana discovered the prince within his palace. Aniruddha refused to surrender without a fight. Alone within Bana's stronghold, he battled numerous warriors before Bana finally subdued him using the Nagapasha. His captivity drew Krishna, Balarama and the Yadava army to Sonitapura, leading to the famous war in which Krishna defeated Bana while honoring Lord Shiva's promise to spare his devotee. After Bana's defeat, Aniruddha was freed and married Usha with the consent of both families. His story became one of the best-known tales of courage, loyalty and destiny in the Yadava tradition, uniting two royal houses through both battle and reconciliation.

Origin

According to the Harivamsha and the Bhagavata Purana, Aniruddha was born to Pradyumna and Rukmavati as the grandson of Krishna and Rukmini. He grew up in Dvaraka as a prince trained in warfare, statecraft and the duties of a kshatriya. His destiny became inseparable from Usha after her prophetic dream, eventually leading to the great conflict between Krishna and Bana and securing Aniruddha's place among the greatest Yadava heroes.

Personality

Aniruddha was fearless, honorable and steadfast. He met overwhelming odds without hesitation, remained loyal to those he loved and fought with the confidence expected of Krishna's grandson. His courage was matched by a strong sense of righteousness, making him both a formidable warrior and a noble prince.
