Dushasana

Dushasana appears in the <b>Mahabharata</b> as the second son of Dhritarashtra and Gandhari and the closest supporter of his elder brother, Duryodhana. Fiercely loyal to the Kaurava cause, he repeatedly carried out Duryodhana's wishes without hesitation. His physical strength and fearlessness made him one of the prominent warriors of the Kuru army, but his actions also became symbols of adharma. His most infamous deed occurred during the gambling match at Hastinapura. Acting on Duryodhana's command, Dushasana dragged Draupadi into the royal assembly and attempted to strip her of her garments. Draupadi prayed to Krishna, and her clothing became endless, preventing the outrage. Witnessing the humiliation, Bhima swore before the entire court that he would one day kill Dushasana and drink his blood. During the Kurukshetra War, Dushasana fought with determination beside Duryodhana. He took part in numerous battles against the Pandavas and remained one of the principal Kaurava commanders. Although brave in combat, his reputation remained overshadowed by the injustice committed in the Kuru court. On the seventeenth day of the war, Bhima fulfilled the vow he had made years earlier. After defeating Dushasana in battle, Bhima tore open his chest and symbolically drank his blood in fulfillment of his oath. The episode marked one of the most violent moments of the epic and represented the inevitable consequence of Dushasana's actions during the dice game.

According to the <b>Mahabharata</b>, Dushasana was born to King Dhritarashtra and Queen Gandhari as the second of the Kaurava brothers. Raised in the royal court of Hastinapura, he trained alongside the other Kuru princes under Drona and Kripa. His life became inseparable from his unwavering devotion to Duryodhana. That loyalty culminated in the Humiliation of Draupadi, an act that directly led to Bhima's Vow of Vengeance and ultimately determined Dushasana's fate.

Dushasana is remembered as aggressive, fiercely loyal and uncompromising. <b>His devotion to Duryodhana never wavered, even when it demanded acts that violated dharma.</b> Courage on the battlefield could not outweigh the cruelty he displayed in the royal assembly, and his choices ultimately brought about the fate foretold by Bhima's oath.
