Dwarka

Dwarka was the magnificent island capital established by Krishna after the Yadavas departed from Mathura. Repeated attacks by Jarasandha convinced Krishna that the safety of his people required a new stronghold. Built upon land reclaimed from the sea, the city became the secure heart of the Yadava kingdom and one of the greatest capitals described in the Mahabharata. The city was renowned for its grand palaces, broad avenues, fortified walls and thriving harbors. Ruled by Krishna, Dwarka became a center of prosperity, diplomacy and righteous governance. Kings, sages and warriors journeyed there seeking alliances, counsel and the presence of Krishna. Dwarka played a decisive role throughout the Mahabharata. It was from this city that Krishna accepted Arjuna's request to serve as his charioteer while allowing Duryodhana to take the Narayani Sena. The city also witnessed the marriages of Krishna's family, the rise of the Yadava dynasty and many of the political decisions that shaped the fate of Bharata. After the Kurukshetra War, internal conflict brought about the destruction of the Yadava clan. Following Krishna's departure from the world, the sea engulfed Dwarka. Arjuna escorted the surviving women and children away before the glorious city disappeared beneath the ocean, leaving behind one of the most enduring memories in the epic tradition.

Dwarka was founded when Krishna led the Yadavas away from Mathura to protect them from the repeated invasions of Jarasandha. According to the epic tradition, the city was established upon land granted by the sea and became an island fortress beyond the reach of constant attack. From that moment, Dwarka became the royal capital of the Yadavas and the seat of Krishna's earthly kingdom. Its prosperity and security endured until the closing events of the Mahabharata.

Dwarka represents wise leadership, prosperity and divine protection. It was built not for conquest but for the safety of its people. Its glory reminds that even the greatest earthly kingdoms are temporary, while righteous action leaves the lasting legacy.
