Kripacharya

Kripacharya, also known as Kripa, was one of the earliest royal preceptors of the Kuru dynasty. According to the <b>Mahabharata</b>, he and his twin sister Kripi were born from the seed of the sage Sharadvan, discovered by King Shantanu and raised within the royal household through the king's compassion. His unusual birth and adoption gave him the name Kripa, meaning one associated with grace and compassion. As master of military science and sacred learning, Kripacharya instructed generations of Kuru princes before Drona's arrival and continued to serve the royal court throughout his life. Even after Drona became the principal martial teacher, Kripa remained one of the kingdom's wisest advisers, respected equally for his scholarship and his skill with every major weapon. During the Kurukshetra War, Kripacharya fought for the Kauravas out of loyalty to the throne of Hastinapura rather than personal hatred toward the Pandavas. He survived the eighteen-day war and later accompanied Ashwatthama and Kritavarma during the night attack on the Pandava camp. Though present during that episode, his life remained defined by duty rather than vengeance. After the war, Kripacharya was welcomed back into the restored Kuru kingdom by Yudhishthira. He later became the preceptor of the young Emperor Parikshit, ensuring that the knowledge of the ancient Kuru tradition survived the destruction of the great war. Remembered among the Chiranjeevis, he endures in tradition as the immortal guardian of martial wisdom and sacred discipline.

According to the <b>Mahabharata</b>, the sage Sharadvan's seed fell upon a clump of reeds, from which the twins Kripa and Kripi were born. King Shantanu discovered the children while hunting and raised them in the Kuru palace out of compassion. Chiranjeevi became Kripacharya's enduring distinction in later tradition. Revered as one of the immortal sages, he preserved both martial knowledge and sacred learning long after the fall of the Kuru dynasty.

Kripacharya is remembered as disciplined, impartial and deeply devoted to duty. <b>He placed responsibility above personal preference and remained loyal to the throne he served, even when that path brought sorrow.</b> Calm in judgment and restrained in speech, he valued knowledge as highly as martial strength.
