Kritavarma

Kritavarma appears in the <b>Mahabharata</b> as one of the foremost warriors of the Yadava race and a leading chief of the Bhoja clan. Though related to Krishna through the Yadava lineage, he chose to support the Kauravas during the Kurukshetra War. His decision reflected the divided loyalties that existed even within the Yadava houses. Renowned for discipline, battlefield command and mastery of arms, Kritavarma led large divisions of the Kaurava army and fought against many of the greatest Pandava warriors. Throughout the war he survived repeated encounters that claimed the lives of countless heroes, earning a reputation as one of the conflict's most capable commanders. After Duryodhana's defeat, Kritavarma joined Ashwatthama and Kripa in the final act of vengeance against the Pandavas. During the night raid on the sleeping Panchala and Pandava camp, he guarded the camp's exits while Ashwatthama carried out the massacre. Although he did not enter the camp with Ashwatthama, he prevented many fleeing warriors from escaping. Kritavarma survived the war and returned to Dvaraka. Years later, during the destruction of the Yadava race at Prabhasa, an argument over the events of the night raid erupted between Kritavarma and Satyaki. The quarrel ended with Satyaki killing Kritavarma, and the violence spread into the fratricidal destruction of the Yadavas.

According to the <b>Mahabharata</b>, Kritavarma was a prince of the Bhoja branch of the Yadava clan. He rose to become one of the greatest military leaders among the Yadavas and commanded powerful forces before the Kurukshetra War. When the great war began, Kritavarma chose to fight for the Kauravas despite his kinship with Krishna, while Krishna himself supported the Pandavas without taking up arms.

Kritavarma is remembered as disciplined, pragmatic and unwavering in loyalty to the side he had chosen. <b>He was an exceptional commander whose military brilliance was shadowed by his willingness to participate in the night raid after the war.</b> His story reflects how loyalty without moral restraint can lead even a great warrior into lasting controversy.
