Mahendra Mountain

In the <i>Valmiki Ramayana</i>, Mahendra Mountain rises beside the southern ocean. After the vanaras learn from Sampati that Sita is in Lanka, they reach this mountain and face the seemingly impossible task of crossing the sea. Hanuman's leap from Mahendra Mountain begins the Sundara Kanda. During the journey he encounters Mainaka, who rises from the ocean to offer him rest, Surasa, who tests his wisdom, and Simhika, whom he defeats before reaching Lanka. Every challenge traces back to the single leap that began from this peak. Mahendra Mountain is remembered not as a battlefield but as the place where faith overcame hesitation. The mountain does not move. It gives Hanuman the ground from which he changes the course of the war without drawing a single weapon.
