Pradyumna

Pradyumna appears in the <b>Mahabharata</b> and is described in greater detail in the <b>Harivamsha</b>, <b>Bhagavata Purana</b> and <b>Vishnu Purana</b>. Born as the son of Krishna and Rukmini, he was recognized in the Puranic tradition as the reincarnation of Kamadeva, who had previously been reduced to ashes by Lord Shiva. His birth united divine lineage with a restored cosmic purpose. Only a few days after his birth, the Asura Sambara abducted the infant and cast him into the sea. A great fish swallowed the child and was later caught by fishermen before being delivered to Sambara's palace. There the child was discovered and raised by Mayavati, who recognized his true identity and eventually revealed both his birth and destiny. Under Mayavati's guidance, Pradyumna learned the mystical knowledge required to counter Sambara's powerful illusions. He confronted the Asura in battle, overcame his magical warfare and slew him, returning triumphantly to Dvaraka where Krishna and Rukmini recognized their long-lost son. His victory established him as one of the foremost heroes of the Yadava dynasty. Pradyumna later became one of Dvaraka's greatest commanders, renowned for his mastery of archery and battlefield leadership. He fought beside Krishna in numerous campaigns described in the Puranic tradition and became the father of Aniruddha, ensuring the continuation of Krishna's royal lineage. His life combined martial excellence, unwavering righteousness and divine purpose.

According to the <b>Bhagavata Purana</b>, <b>Harivamsha</b> and <b>Vishnu Purana</b>, Pradyumna was born to Krishna and Rukmini in Dvaraka. These traditions identify him as the reincarnation of Kamadeva, restored to the world after his earlier destruction by Lord Shiva. His miraculous survival after being abducted by Sambara and his eventual return to Dvaraka marked the beginning of a life dedicated to protecting the Yadava kingdom and upholding dharma.
