Biography

Shrutakarma was the son of Arjuna and Draupadi and one of the five Upapandavas. Born into the Pandava royal family, he grew up surrounded by warriors whose names echoed across Bharata. As Arjuna's son, he inherited a legacy built upon mastery of arms, discipline and unwavering dedication to duty. His education reflected the highest traditions of Kshatriya training. Under the guidance of the Pandavas, Shrutakarma learned archery, swordsmanship and chariot warfare. Though the Mahabharata records only brief references to the deeds of the Upapandavas, it consistently portrays them as capable young princes who stood beside the Pandava army during the Kurukshetra War. Shrutakarma survived the great battle that ended the Kuru dynasty, but peace lasted only a single night. Driven by vengeance, Ashwatthama entered the sleeping Pandava camp after the war and slew the Upapandavas along with other warriors. Shrutakarma fell beside his brothers before he could inherit the future secured by his fathers' sacrifice. His death transformed victory into mourning for Arjuna and Draupadi. The loss of the Upapandavas became one of the final tragedies of the Mahabharata, reminding future generations that even righteous wars leave behind grief that cannot be measured by triumph alone.
