Yuyutsu

Yuyutsu appears in the <b>Mahabharata</b> as a son of Dhritarashtra born to a Vaishya woman. Though raised among the Kaurava princes, he consistently distinguished himself through his commitment to righteousness rather than family loyalty. His place within the Kuru household gave him a close view of the growing conflict between the Pandavas and the Kauravas. Before the Kurukshetra War began, Yudhishthira publicly invited any warrior who believed the Pandava cause was just to cross over before the battle commenced. Yuyutsu alone accepted the invitation from among the Kaurava ranks. By leaving his brothers and joining the Pandavas, he chose dharma over blood, knowing that the decision would permanently separate him from his family. Yuyutsu fought throughout the Kurukshetra War on the Pandava side. Unlike nearly all the other sons of Dhritarashtra, he survived the conflict. His survival was not remembered for spectacular victories but for the moral choice that defined his life and for the trust placed in him after the war. Following the destruction of the Kuru dynasty, Yuyutsu assisted Yudhishthira in preserving what remained of the kingdom. After the Pandavas later departed on their final journey, Parikshit inherited the throne, and Yuyutsu continued to support the stability of the Kuru realm. His legacy rests not on conquest but on choosing what he believed was right when it cost him everything.

According to the <b>Mahabharata</b>, Yuyutsu was born to King Dhritarashtra through a Vaishya woman and grew up alongside the Kaurava princes in Hastinapura. Although not born to Queen Gandhari, he remained a member of the Kuru royal family. His defining moment came on the eve of the Kurukshetra War when he embraced the Choice of Dharma by leaving the Kaurava army and joining the Pandavas. That decision shaped both his legacy and the future of the Kuru kingdom.

Yuyutsu is remembered as thoughtful, principled and courageous. <b>He valued righteousness above personal gain and family allegiance.</b> While others allowed loyalty to blood to determine their actions, Yuyutsu accepted isolation and risk in order to follow the path he believed was just.
